Schaumburg Church of Christ's Wedding Policy
Requirements for the use of the building for weddings and other ceremonies
The Schaumburg Church of Christ receives many inquiries about the use of our church building for wedding ceremonies by those who are non-members. Our building is available to non-members if the following conditions can be met:
- Due to our building and liability insurance, any activity at the building must be a “church” activity; i.e., it must be a function conducted by a member of the Schaumburg Church. For this reason we do not allow our building or grounds to be used or rented by outside groups and organizations. The only exception is that the facility is used as a polling precinct. The County of Cook provides its own insurance coverage. The ceremony must be conducted by one of our members.
- The regular minister of the church, Glenn Jobe, does perform ceremonies for members and non-members of the opposite sex if:
a. Neither party in the ceremony has been previously married. The only exceptions are: (1) a first spouse died or (2) a spouse has divorced a previous mate due to his/her sexual unfaithfulness in the marriage (Matthew 5:32; Matthew 19:9).
b. Because of the seriousness of marriage to the couple who enters into its union, upon their families and upon society at large, couples agree to fourteen weeks of premarital counseling prior to the ceremony. Counseling sessions must be completed not less than one month before the happy event. Thus counseling needs to begin not less than ten months before the ceremony.
i. The weekly two-hour sessions will consist of videos, questionnaires, surveys, readings and considerable
outside reading and other assignments.
ii. Sessions are not necessarily in consecutive weeks: there may be several weeks between sessions,
depending upon the schedules of the couple and the minister.
iii. Sessions are conducted by the minister at no cost to the couple, although there is a one-time $60.00
charge for all study materials.
- Rental for the church building is $300.00 and the fee for the minister is $100.00.
- Musical instruments are permissible, including guitars, pianos, organs etc., if they are not left in the building overnight; i.e., they must be removed from the building the same day they were introduced.
- Glenn Jobe, minister of the Schaumburg Church of Christ, may be contacted at the church office: 847-985-0028.
