What Do You Believe? Why?
Do you know the Scriptural basis of your belief?
As a follower of Jesus, do you know what you believe and why you believe it? Are you able to show from Scripture the basis of your faith? For instance, the Nicene Creed (A.D. 325) in part reads,
We believe in one God, the FATHER Almighty, Maker of all things visible and invisible.
And in one Lord JESUS CHRIST, the Son of God, begotten of the Father [the only-begotten; that is, of the essence of the Father, God of God], Light of Light, very God of very God, begotten, not made, being of one substance with the Father; by whom all things were made [both in heaven and on earth]. . .. [The Creeds of Christendom, edited by Philip Schaff. Vol. I: The History of Creeds (Grand Rapids: Baker Book House, 1931), pp. 28-29]
This creed is adopted by the Roman Catholic Church and nearly all Protestant churches. The creed “has been widely accepted in modern times as a proposed basis of Christian unity. . ..” [“Nicene Creed, The” in The Oxford Dictionary of the Christian Church edited by F. L. Cross (New York: Oxford University Press, 1974), p. 968]
When the Nicene Creed speaks of Jesus as “very God of very God” and “by whom all things were made,” what does that mean? Is Jesus God? Is Jesus really the Creator of the universe? How do we know? These are all wonderful truths, but do you know how the Bible teaches these wonderful concepts? How prepared are you to share your convictions with others?
Sample Search For Truth Study
The Schaumburg Church of Christ offers simple at home personal Bible studies that help a Bible student better understand his faith. These Bible studies challenge the student to discover answers to his religious questions from the Scriptures only.
The following sample of questions from lesson number two of our Search for Truth Bible study series demonstrates how the student discovers the Bible’s teaching regarding the person and activity of Jesus Christ. The teacher is committed to help the student discover religious truths for himself through the use of open questions. The teacher does not tell the student what to think, but rather leads the student through the Scriptures, and allows the student to discover what the Bible says.
